Title: Powder Coating
Post by: Knappy on April 22, 2009, 10:46:25 PM
I am about to start my restoration of my 69 Z28.  I am planing to powder coat the subframe , control arms, and some other components.  Is
powder coating considered to be "incorrect" in judging circles.   Are their guidelines for types of paint on frames?

Some high-end cars have been restored with powder coating.
Gloss is more important that type of paint, IMO.

Powdercoat looks like powdercoat.  It doesnt look like paint.

I won't say that it can't be done to look like paint, but myself, I've yet to see any PC that does.  It's thick, and it looks thick.  Kinda like a hosed-on, bad paint job.  More noticeable with more gloss.

If you can find someone that lays down a thin, level PC, then it might be okay.  Not sure how it would do on a judging sheet.
