Title: 67 Steering Wheel
Post by: daytho1 on March 17, 2006, 11:44:23 AM
I have a 67 all original standard Camaro.  My problem is that I'm in the market for a replacement steering wheel as the original is cracked on the back side (more of an age thing than from damage).  However, what I'm seeing as replacements don't come close to what was originally installed on the vehicle.  The original steering wheel is a three spoke with two horn buttons.  In another post referencing a 68 model, I read where this was refered to as an N30 type.  From what I can tell, these steering wheels were installed on many 67 and 68 model year vehicles.  The insert is black on chrome.  Again, no viable replacements available.  What are my options for replacing this while maintaining the vehicle in an "original" condition?  Are there sources for these replacements short of combing the junk yards?

This wheel is the optional N30 steering wheel.  You will not find a new replacement for it.  You could change it to use the standard steering wheel, if you want a new one.  You could fix your original one.

Daytho,

The wheel is in reproduction in the Impala Catalog.  It is Part Q-53.

Thanks Phil!  Do you happen to know how close to original this one is as there is no picture available?

Impala guys have told me that it is a really good reproduction, but it is only currently reproduced in black.   For you however that is a good thing. cause it looks as if black is the color you need!  I am in the same boat - but mine will need to be painted blue.  Here is a Picture of a blue wheel.

Pretty sure Year one can E-mail you the picture of it before you order.  Check the cast grip ribbing against your original to be sure they are the same.  (I am told they are)

Let us know how it works out.

According to the 67-69 RPO it was the same on the Z23 and Z87 package in 68.

Did anybody get the YearOne wheel, and if so, how does it compare to the original?

The 68 steering wheel N30 may have had the same RPO, but it does NOT look like the 67.  And yes, it is equally hard to find.

The '68 N30 wheels show up on e-bay quite often, from bad shape to completely restored.  The '67's are less common but I have seen them from time to time.
