Trying to figure out what an original 1967 dipstick looks like. Parts catalogue says - Camaro V8 (exc 396) - 3896912.
So, did base, SS 350, and Z28 all use the same stick?
Also, did the stick have the dark red button and was the top of the handle shaped like a "P" or an "O" centered on top of the stick?

3896912 Is the service replacement stick for all 67 small black. 302, 327, and 350. Still available from GM.
-
If that is the replacement part number then what was the original part number?
-
Can anyone with an original V-8 '67 dipstick please post a picture or at least a detailed description?
Thanks, Gary

See if we can bump this back up and get a response.
Question is " what was the original factory part # for a 3896912 service replacement oil gauge or dipstick?"
And maybe the physical characteristics of same?
This in 67 for all 8cyl except 396

Does anybody know the physicals of this.
What color cap if any?

A few years ago they changed the design of 3896912. It used to be available in the original appearance. Now it comes with the new style yellow plastic handle. It is no longer correct appearing. It should function OK but it will stick out like a sore thumb.

I am attempting to find out what "was" original.
I want to know, or am attempting to find out exactly what the L48 came from the factory with.
Physical measurements and discription.
-
I've got one of the original design, but I'll have to dig it back out due to the group picture below doesn't isolate the handle with the part numbered pic.
I'll get to it as soon as I can -

Steve

2nd down is what's in car now. Said to be a service replacement.
Bottom is what I am being led to think is a original. Handle wise that is.
-
Take that back. 2nd is similar as the loop is made like this....
But it is a somewhat flattened loop with a dimple at start of loop.
If that makes sense.
Would post pic but can't seem to figure out how from my iphone.

When I bought a '67 V8 dipstick through the parts department in the '80s it had a brown button on it.
