Title: 1967 Dipstick...3896912?
Post by: kforce on March 11, 2009, 04:18:54 PM: Trying to figure out what an original 1967 dipstick looks like. Parts catalogue says - Camaro V8 (exc 396) - 3896912.
So, did base, SS 350, and Z28 all use the same stick?
Also, did the stick have the dark red button and was the top of the handle shaped like a "P" or an "O" centered on top of the stick?

Question is " what was the original factory part # for a 3896912 service replacement oil gauge or dipstick?"
And maybe the physical characteristics of same?
This in 67 for all 8cyl except 396

Post by: elcamino72 on November 12, 2014, 02:03:36 PM: A few years ago they changed the design of 3896912. It used to be available in the original appearance. Now it comes with the new style yellow plastic handle. It is no longer correct appearing. It should function OK but it will stick out like a sore thumb.

Bottom is what I am being led to think is a original. Handle wise that is.

But it is a somewhat flattened loop with a dimple at start of loop.
If that makes sense.

Brown cap (told service replacement for 67sb)

Total overall brown 1/4 longer
