Title: 2010 Camaro to Pace the Indy 500 this year!
Post by: Dave69x33 on February 27, 2009, 01:55:46 AM
Hello Camaro Friends,

I live in Indianapolis, and great news was released today from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on the local TV new broadcasts - The 2010 Camaro will be the Pace Car for the 93rd running of the Indy 500!

For the complete story and pictures of the unveiling, visit the following link to Indy's web site: http://www.indy500.com/news/13240/All-New_Chevrolet_Camaro_To_Pace_93rd_Indianapolis_500.

The following are some “Cliff Notes” from the news release issued today by the Speedway.  I am sure you will start to see and read more about the 2010 Indy Pace Car in the coming weeks in automotive publications.

"2009 marks the fifth time the Chevrolet Camaro has been selected to pace the Indianapolis 500 (1967, 1969, 1982, 1993, 2009).  It will be the 44th time a General Motors vehicle has paced "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing," with 20 by a Chevrolet. Powered by the 6.2-liter LS3 all-aluminum Chevy V-8, the all-new 2010 Camaro produces 426 horsepower at 5,900 rpm and 420 lb-ft of torque at 4,600 rpm. It features a Tremec six-speed manual transmission and 3.45 axle ratio".

I can't wait for Indy!!

I think it might have looked better in white with perhaps twin orange stripes. ;)  But then again, I might be just a tad biased.

Here is a picture of the this years Daytona 500 pace car, the 2010 Camaro. I took this picture in the pits on Sunday prior to the race.

.....of all the color schemes to have come up with, UGH!!!!  GM / Chevy just doesn't get it as they slip slowly under the waves...all the time asking themselves....what happened?

White with dual orange stripes, houndstooth interior....now that would have been awsome...not only on race day, but as a car sitting on the showroom floor, available for purchase by the general public.

Is this to reach the import tuner market? The "paint" does nothing for me. Will they also run some big chrome fart pipes?

Yep That's It... I knew I didn't like the new Camaro for a reason and I think you just described it perfectly!
Additionally, this Indy Pace Car version looks a little like it might have gone through a massage on "Pimp My Ride' prior to it's unveiling. Too bad, since I think everyone views the Indy 500 as a 'traditional race' and you would think GM would have tried to honour that theme in a traditional way with a look and car that displays it's roots back in the 60's when the first Pace Cars were created...
IMHO they missed the mark twice here - firstly with the original design of the new Camaro car and secondly with the gaudy graphics to try and make it look fast and appealing to the tuner crowd.
GM is way out of touch and has been for a long time now and never has it been as evident as it is here in this situation, the way I see it! - Randy

lol - I guess I would have to agree. A retro ride with a new wave paint scheme.  GM has had rectal craniel inversion syndrome.

Last year I stated some dislikes about the new Camaro on a forum dedicated to it.  The website had some GM engineers on it - they pulled my comments and booted me from the website. So much for constructive criticism and free speech!

Overall I like the new Camaro fairly well - I can only hope GM figures it out.  At $1.45 a share - it's obvious they are a long way from it.  I wish them the best..... curb finders anyone?
