Does anyone know if bowtie mirrors were installed on 67 Camaros? I sold a 67 back in the summer that was an all original with 52k miles, survivor car, October 66 build date - it had one. I now have a 67 SS/RS with a December build date that has one..... Just curious ??? I've read posts that say it never happened and had people tell me the same. These cars appear to be original...

If you mean the small bowtie on the back of the mirror, then yes they were on 67's. I have a June built 67 RS with dual mirrors, both with bowties on them.

Although we are still researching this, it's known that the bowtie mirror was used from 1963 though early 1966 for the following models:
Corvette from mid 1963 through mid 1966 (around VIN 103300)
Chevelle from the 1963 model year through the very early 1966 model year
Nova for the 1963 model year through the 1965 model year
Full Sized cars from the 1963 model year through the 1965 model year (as part of the Z01 Comfort and Convenience Option Group).
The Camaro didn't start production until August, 1966 (several months AFTER the bowtie mirror ceased production on all other Chevrolet models), so it's fairly reasonable to assume it wasn't used on the Camaro.
Note that although the bowtie mirror has been observed on a few very early publicity photos, Chevrolet publicity pictures are known to contain items that never made production and can't be used for verification.

1st generation Camaros never came with mirrors on both doors from the factory, so if you have dual mirrors one was added either by the dealer or a previous owner.

After discussing this with other CRG member, I need to make changes to the above. The dates should read:
Corvette from mid 1963 through February 1967 (around VIN 103300)
Chevelle from the 1963 model year through the 1966 model year
Nova from the 1963 model year through the 1966 model year
Full Sized cars from the 1963 model year through the 1966 model year
Note that GM documentation shows this mirror wasn't used after 1966, but a few original early 1967 Chevelle's and full size cars have been observed with this mirror.

In my 20 + years of judging, I have never seen a Bowtie mirror on a 1967 Camaro. I own a 13,000 mile March built 67 Z28 and it has the original mirror. It's plain.

Yes it was the yellow L30 car. I do not remember if there was a date. I'll dig through some photos in the next couple of days and see if I can spot anything. If I talk to the new owner in the next few days - I will ask him.

Does this mean that the nos replacement mirrors that were sold years ago are in fact the original mirrors or is there a difference? I still have my un-installed nos mirror and always was under the impression they were incorrect w/o the bowtie.

Original Chevrolet mirrors would be correct.

Let me expand on my above answer...
While "original" Chevrolet mirrors would be correct, NOS, or "service" mirrors may or may not be correct. Chevrolet service parts were intended to perform the same function as original parts, but might not be exactly the same. Therefore, even though the part number might be the same, minor changes to the design might be seen and the part not be exactly like originals.

I have the original mirror body from my ‘67 RS L30/M20 Norwood convert. It’s a plain mirror on the outside. On the inside (mirror glass is long gone) there is a small bowtie, the number 79413, a separate number 2, what looks like the letters NH run together, and two circles and two squares with some dots inside them. This help any? Cheers- Pete

FYI: All 1967 Chevrolet full size cars (caprice, impala, bel air, biscayne) used a mirror with a bowtie cast in it. You can take that to the bank. Part numbers: LH 3901861, RH 3901862. RH Accessory number 987025. Those 3909197 mirrors are correct for 1967 camaros. Anyone who has studied Chevrolet parts has learned that the only thing that was consistent is inconsistency.
All cars in 1967 came with a LH mirror as standard equipment as per NHSTA regulations. 1965 and previous years did not have an outside rearview mirror as standard equipment. That is why you see so many accessory mirrors for 1965 and back for sale. Dealers kept a healthy stock of these on hand as many customers had one installed at the dealer if the car did not come with one. This also explains why you don't see any 1967 and up accessory LH mirrors for sale. By then all cars came with one and there was no longer a need to offer one as an accessory.
If you look at remote mirrors the last year for a bowtie on any remote mirror is 1966 and the bow tie was on the stem and not the head of the mirror. By the time the Camaro came around the remote mirror that is correct for the 1967 Camaro is also shared with the 67 Chevelle, Corvair, Nova and 66 Caprice. No bowties at all. Camaro came around at a transistional time for the Bow tie on the mirror. Who knows why it was eliminated. Too bad because I think it ads a lot of character to the mirror and of course pride in wearing the Bow tie.
