Title: 1967 camaro window crank's difference's casting 5719477 vs. 9702932
Post by: RS3SDL2MG on January 25, 2009, 09:04:53 PM
I just found this section of this site , great looking forum , anyway I have asked this question on several message board's and have yet to get a straight answer , mostly all I have seen is opinion's ,

here is the question : why are 1967 camaro's equipped with two different casting number window crank's which are 5719477 a more flat crank and 9702932 a more curved crank , and which one's go in the front & which one's go in the rear ?

I have heard several opinion's but nobody seem's to know the answer to this , I have my own opinion that the more curved one's go in the rear to make it easier to roll the 1/4 glass up and down due to the arm rest and chrome trim but it is AN OPINION !

anybody that can answer this let's hear it , and here is a pic of how much different they are , the one on the left is a 9702932 and the one on the right is a 5719477

I am restoring a 67 Z-28 - May  67 build date.  I pulled the original light blue window cranks - front and rear- when I removed the original interior for restoration.  The numbers are the same on all four 5719477.  They all have the same shape.

I can't speak for 67's, but in 69 there were different cranks for deluxe vs. standard interiors. The door panels were a different thickness so the cranks had to stick out farther for the deluxe interior.

It could be a deluxe v. standard interior - just know what was originally in my light blue interior  67.  It is a standard interior.

I had a hunch it was a standard vs. deluxe interior thing , so far the deluxe interior 67's are the one's that seem to have the different crank's and also a 67 with std interior would have LIGHT BLUE knob's the factory installed one's in the 67 732 deluxe interior car's has the darker almost NAVY BLUE knob's the same color as the plastic cover's on the seatbelt retractor's ,

casting # 5719477 rear deluxe
casting # 9702932 front deluxe
casting # 5719477 all 4 on std interior

How are you tying the Applications to GM part numbers to casting numbers?

These are the part numbers as defined in the 71 Camaro 721A parts manual, note the title of section 10.797, it says Front and rear door handles.

SPO part numbers are not the same as assembly line part numbers, apparently they only stocked one or the other (more curved, or flatter) for all deluxe interior applications in the parts department (at least by December of 71 when this parts manual was printed).

Mark , you have it right there , the one's listed as CUSTOM TRIM mean's deluxe interior and are casting 9702932 , the one's listed without the CUSTOM TRIM are casting 5719477 , so if you look at the part number's you see that GM intended for the 970's to go in the front , car's with std interior got all 4 5719477's , and I have a black knob NOS GM crank that is part #7680654 and the casting # is 9702932 , here is pic's of it and the part # on the box ,

in this part number list I found for firebird (SAME AS CAMARO ON THIS) it list's these part #'s as DOOR HANDLES
