does any one know if any ss,z28s or rs models were made in late 68 before the x codes? that were 69 camaro?

"X" codes started with the 12B trim tags dates. That would leave 09A-12A build dates in 1968 w/o "X" codes for 1969 models.

Yes, they were - there was no change in the model mix during the year - only the cowl tag format was revised in mid-December to add the "X" codes.
