Title: 1967 Z-28 interior and intake questions
Post by: 69carolinabluez on December 21, 2008, 07:56:08 PM

Does anyone know if the 1967 Z-28 with special cowl plenum air cleaner was available in the crossram either as dealer or factory installed option? I have read that Crossram availability did NOT start until 1968? also did the 1967 Interior have a custom option of leather?

No leather... no Cross Ram in 67, cowl plenum A/C available shipped loose in trunk...
Came with a template to cut the hole in the firewall... some jobs were better than other's ... I personally like the 150 holes and chisel method...

The cross-ram was NEVER available from the factory - it only came as a kit in a box over the parts counter.

Thanks for the info. All that I have read on the 1967 was that SCCA rules only allowed 1 4 bbl carb in the race and in 1968 the restrictions were lifted and the crossram was installed and brought the 4 bolt main up to 400 + HP.
Thanks for takin the time to answer.

That is not true. Both Cougars and Mustangs ran in-line 2x4 intake manifolds in '67 because they filled out the proper forms with the SCCA to be able to use them. It also helped that Ford had the manifold already developed and available. Chevrolet did not have a proper 2x4 intake manifold available and thus did not have anything but the stock 1x4 manifold available to use. It was not until after the '67 racing season was over that Chevrolet was finishing up development of the 2x4 cross ram. That was done in time and the proper paperwork was filled out in time for it to be used for the '68 racing season which began at Daytona in early February.

So when was the crossram manifold first available? Not until 68?

Correct, it was not available until 1968.
