Title: Tail lamp gaskets 1968
Post by: CVKUEBER on December 09, 2008, 06:21:21 PM
Looking for taillamp housing to rear body panel gaskets that don't leak for 68 coupe. Has anyone had any luck? GM replacements are long gone.  The ones I have now are soft-seal that soak like a sponge. Thanks in advance.

On one of my cars, the dealer parts man told me to double up the taillight gaskets if I wanted to stop to normal leaking problem. Perhaps the same solution might work here.

The correct one is made in the aftermarket world. It just costs more and you have to ask for it. You may have to trim it a little  around the outside edge of the bezel so it doesn't stick out around the edge when its bolted on.

I found that the gasket, is only part of your problem..
You need to use a slight bit of sealer were the lens meets the metal housing.
I went down this road before, I took the entire housing off and filled it with water were the bulbs would nomaly go, only to watch the water to run run out.
Look very carefully at were it us leaking you will be suprised.
