Well... after almost a year and a half, the CRG STEERING WHEEL REPORT (http://www.camaros.org/swheel.shtml) is finally done and posted! What I thought would be a slam dunk report turned out to be much more difficult than I had anticipated. Not only was the research farily involved, but finding all the pictures took a ton of time. It's amazing how many cars out there have the wrong wheel, horn cap, shroud or what-not!

I would like to thank everyone that sent me pictures, including the folks that sent me pictures I couldn't use for whatever reason. Taking time out of busy schedules to participate is very much appreciated. Make sure you guys hover your mouse over the pictures to get the names of each participant because they deserve a lot of credit for their time. Without these guys, the report would still be "under construction"! I also want to thank everyone that posted information in the steering wheel threads. This information was very valuable in the research process.

I finally want to thank the other members of the CRG for some great background information and assistance. As always, your help was VERY much appreciated!

Hopefully, this will answer a lot of questions regarding first generation Camaro steering wheels, but if you have questions or additional information, please feel free to email me.

Ed, thanks! Looks good, do you know if there are any pebble grained wheels currently being reproduced?

are we sure of all of this?  my original 68z does not have the metal star covering the spokes, but does have the brushed horn button?

Tom, as far as I know, the pebble grained wheel isn't being reproduced at this time. Only the smooth, but you might want to check with some of the vendors anyway.

sd1968z28, if you have the standard interior, your steering wheel should have the brushed trim. If it doesn't, it was either removed or you have a 67 wheel.

Thanks Ed.  I have an off the wall question.  In the 68 "wood grained" steering wheel picture, there is a red light on the dash below the ignition swithch.  Was this some aftermarket thing or an option?  I have this same thing on my car and just wondered if the person that had the car could tell me.  thx.

It's aftermarket. My car has a later 10SI alternator on it, and these need a resistance load on them to work correctly. I hate the location, but it was on there when I got the car 10 years ago.

Sure it ugly huh!
