Anyone have a good picture of the VIN stamp location on a Powerglide or a TH350?
I'm looking for an overall shot that shows people where to find it, something like the three pics at the bottom of this page, http://www.camaros.org/drivetrain.shtml#PartialVINs.
I would be honored to be able to use your picture there. :)
-
Kurt, I can get both pics for you. PG is on the pass side boss and TH350 is along driver bell housing. Wont be a 69 vin. the TH350 is from a 70 truck, not sure about the PG.
-
Well, I went out to the garage to look at the TH350 and it wont make a good pic :) Coveredin dust and dirt. I dont think the PG will be any cleaner.
See :)

Here's a couple of good ones.
-
Dale,
That bottom pic is exactly what I was looking for. That's a TH350, right?
Kevin,
That would work fine. You just need to back up so we can see the whole trans. Look at the TH400 pic.
Thanks guys!
-
Yes Kurt.
It's the TH 350 in my Pace Car.
-
I was 99% sure. But I've seen enough TH350's with the VIN by the bellhousing that I was second guessing myself!
-
Kurt, here's the TH350 full shot. I will try for the PG this weekend. I may need reminding :)

Powerglide from my '69RS - original tranny.
-
..and a second pic showing more of the tranny.
-
Thanks guys! Steve Karlecke also sent me some PG pics.
I think I got enough to work with for now.
One question: Is there a pad on a Powerglide like the one in Dale's pictures above or were they all stamped on the bellhousing?
-
The PG case in my car (chevelle VIN) is stamped on the pad that dale posted, but on the top, not the side. I have to check the PG in the shed for that one.
-
Kurt,
Attached are LH and RH views of my PG. Mine doesn't have a similar pad.

Nice pics Rich! The pad is there on yours too. pass side, just below the starter relief bubble.

Here's my July 68 powerglide stamp.(http://)

Sebastien,
Where is that stamped?
Guys,
Take a look at this and let me know if y'all agree. http://www.camaros.org/drivetrain.shtml#PartialVINs
A thanks to Steve Karlecke for his powerglide picture, but I ended up using Richard's. ;)

Guys,

Looks good Kurt! One thing I've noticed on cars I've inspected with Powerglides and TH350 transmission is the VIN stamped is usually on the right side on Los Angeles cars and on the left side on Norwood cars.
Paul

Thanks Paul. I had noticed that, but wasn't sure enough to write it down. I changed it in the text.
-
Good addition Kurt, looks good.

Sebastien,
Where is that stamped?
Sorry for taking so long to answer Kurt.
It's a pad on the right hand side just like Dale's 350 picture.
nice work on your article!
-
Thanks Sebastien!
There is the exception to what Paul and I just discussed about stamping locations. :)
Maybe it changed year to year too......
-
Yes my car is a Norwood car July 68.(As per GM the last 68 Camaro convertible shipped to Canada.)If that can help you noting when and where the stamping differed.
It also has a drain plug on the transmission pan.fwd r/h side.can't say for sure if it is original.
I'm always glad to help th CRG.
