Title: speedo / fuel needles
Post by: Bjv69ss on November 09, 2008, 12:15:00 PM
Has anyone ever pulled the needles off the speedo and the fuel gauge?  I've tried but am afraid of breaking something.  How about putting them back on in the right spot so they read correctly?  I want to change the dials and the rusty screws that hold them on.
Thanks Joe

It has been a while since I messed with the speedo, but I remember the needles just press fit on.  The speedo has a stop on it and the needle should barely rest on the 0 mark. The fuel guage is more tricky.  You need to have the sender at 0 ohms (empty or full, cant remember which is which) then set the needle a little under E or over F.  There is ohm info either here or on TC.

0 ohms is an empty tank and 90 ohms is a full tankl

Thanks for the info.  On the fuel gauge...I'll set the gauge at 0 ohms, empty, and then pop the needle on with it pointing to empty.  Right?

I think you can just move the needle, no need to take it off.

If you mean the console guage one, I just pulled mine off to set it and pushed it back on.  If it's the big one, I don't know.

It's the big gauge.  I'll try over the weekend

Hey there...

Where did you find the replacement gauge faces or dials? Mine are a bit tacky and I'd like to replace them, great winter project!

Thanks..

I found them on eBay.  I bought some used gauges that had some better dials.  In the end I bought new ones.  The needles did'nt come off like it was  suggested they would, at least on mine, I broke the speedo trying.  I'll sell you the two I bought if your interested.  I paid 40.00 for the both.

Hi, Joe..

I have a '68, sounds like you have dials or gauges for a '69....
