Title: Muncie trans from Oldsmobile has odd switch on forward shift arm..
Post by: Camaroon on November 05, 2008, 01:27:19 PM
Curious if anybody knows what the switch mounted on the side plate of Muncies used in Oldsmobiles (and possibly other makes) around 1971 is intended for.

The switch is screwed into the plate of the Muncie where the most forward shift arm stud enters the side cover.

This was observed on a 1971 Olds 442 with 455 engine and Muncie 4 speed.

Thanks!

That switch activates a vacuum relay that allows vacuum to the distributor when the transmission is in 4th gear; part of the TCS (Transmission-Controlled Spark) system.
