Title: Were there 69SS327's built?
Post by: Otto on October 17, 2008, 08:08:28 PM
just looked at a car stored outside for several years.  The owner passed away.  It appears to be a 69 SS/RS with a 327.  Did they put the L30 327/275 HP in this car in early 69 or ever?  I found one chart online that showed this option, albeit wasn't clear if for SS.  It appears stock with deluxe interior, console guages and fold down rear seat Fathom Green with Black int and vinyl top.  Any advice appreciated.
Thanks

Could the car in question have a 350 in it and not a 327?  I believe they used the same block casting number.

Check the engine code on the block and also check to see if there is a partial VIN on the engine to see if
it is correct for the car.

It could be an SS 350 car.  Note I said COULD BE.

Kurt, I thought you could buy a 6 cyl car with the SS option, but the 350 & 396 wer the most common.????

No 6 cyl. Camaro SS.  You might be thinking of Nova.  I'm not possitive, but I think a 6 cyl. Nova SS was possible.

Nope. When you ordered an SS (Z-27), the 350/295hp (L-48) was part of the package, and you could order a 396 (L35, L34, or L78) as an option on top of the SS option.

Yeh, now that you mention it I guess I do remember that it was the Nova You could get the SS option on.   The memory gets fuzzy after 40 or so years.

JYou could get RS I think on any car. SS required at least q 350.

In the mid-60's, the SS package was an appearance package and you could get L6's with it. By 67, it was a performance package for Chevrolet (ie no L6's).

I'm not sure when the change to hi-po occurred, but it was in place by 67. I think all (except Corvair and Corvette).
