Question for non radio 67 owners. I have 2 67s; one a radio car w/ an antenna wire running thru a hole in the door jam. The other a non radio car w/ a black rubber grommet filling that same hole. Question is did all cars get the grommet or just the non radio cars? thanks.

That hole was pre-pierced in every car - if it got a radio, the antenna cable came with a grommet on it that went in the hole. If it didn't get a radio, the hole got a solid grommet.
-
I believe that if a car had the optional rear antenna, that the grommet in the hole in the RH hinge pillar also had a solid grommet, as the antenna cable wasn't routed through that hole (at least my '68 is that way).
-
Thanks, do you have a pic of the grommet, I assume its the same from 67 to 68.
-
I can grab one this weekend - I'm out of town until Friday.

Sorry about the delay - here's the picture.
As you can see, the PO didn't remove it when he repainted the car, so it has some (blue) overspray on it.
I looked in the '68 AIM under RPO U73. It doesn't call out the plug.
The grommet that was used with a fender-mounted antenna is shown as POA of the cable assembly (RPO U63, sheet B1).
Hope this helps.

That's it , awesome Thanks! it has a very small hole in the middle too.

Also NO ground straps under the hood

No, it is a solid plug. No hole in the middle.
It appears to be the same grommet used on cars with fender mounted antennas without the pass-through hole for the antenna cable.
Any hole there would be a direct water and air leak into the passenger compartment.

That's because the plug (on a non-radio car) was installed by Fisher Body; Fisher also installed the antenna cable on a rear-antenna car. Chevrolet installed the antenna cable on a front fender-antenna radio car.

my 67 Z28 with rear antenna grommet.

thanks...If the trim tag was coded on the fisher side for rear antenna, how come it wasn't coded for nonradio if they had to put the same grommet in?

Because all cars were built to the "base" condition unless an option was specified, and not having a radio was the "base" condition; every car got the grommet unless the optional radio with the standard fender antenna was specified.
