This is an auction on eBay for a 69 Z28 color delete car 140269235256. I know you could buy a Corvette with color delete but didn't know a Camaro could be bought that way...or could it?
I could not find anything on the subject more than that Camaros and Corvettes shared colors. I'm currious to hear for you guys.

A - or - - paint code does not indicate 'color delete' [no such thing] or a Corvette color. It indicates the car was ordered with special painting instructions; on a Z/28 usually stripe delete. It can also indicate non-normative combos such as a 71-71 Z/28 with black stripes where white would have been the norm.
Typically - paint code cars had "special paint" on the first line of the window label and no color specified. However a special paint Z/28 window sticker has been revealed also with a paint color and a color code on the tag. The car has a non-normative stripe color.

You used the phrase 'color delete'. I have never heard that in my 33 years of 1st gens. All Camaros were painted; there was no color or paint delete. Some Camaro models that included stripes were on rare occasion ordered without them. These are often referred to as 'stripe delete' cars. For 69 they usually have a - or - - paint code on the trim tag.
A very few Camaros were ordered in non-RPO colors; those are also considered special paint cars.

That's what I thought. I was just currious since the guy says in his eBay description that the car was ordered in primer. Check out the auction. 140269235256

That is a common belief. No Camaro was delivered in primer. That car was either stripe delete or had black stripes.

For some reason I thought Reggie Jackson got a camaro that had the -- on it. It was a special paint order. I remember seeing it for sale long ago, maybe ten years or more. I want to say it was Reggie Jacksons but I may be wrong.
The older I get the less I remember.......

Perhaps the seller meant "paint code delete" instead of "paint delete".

-- means special paint. Could be non standard, but GM color. Could be stripe delete, or non standard stripe color. To my knowledge, in 69 stripes could only be white, black, or red. Base car color, and top color determined stripe color. Lots more info on this web site.

Seller clearly states in his ad that the car was delivered in primer.

If a 69 Z-28 had a - - it usually had a non-standard stripe color, there were some colors that called for white and some black stripes and they could be ordered with the opposit stripe color correct?

For 69 - - paint on a Z/28 usually indicates stripe delete. Also seen on Camaro SS. A few are known in non-RPO colors.
There are two documented Z/28s known to have non-normative stripe/body color combos.

I have a friend that ordered a car just like you stated in 69. It was - - on the trim tag also.

My car is garnet red with white stripes. It was wearing it's original paint when I purchased it in 1975. It has a - - paint code.

A garnet red 69 would be expected to have red stripes. So if it came with white stripes, the paint correct code would be --.

Tom, I believe your car would have had white stripes or black...Never red on red

My mistake red stripes were standard on burgandy, not garnet red.

Never seen a burgundy Z with red stripes. All have been white, including original paint cars.

7. The default stripe color for Burgundy was red. However, the "Camaro Striping Color Application Chart" dated 4/1/69 documents the Burgundy models that received white stripes: Z/28 or non-Z/28 with either Parchment vinyl top or white convertible top.
