Title: Natural Metal Finish? Paint undercarriage.....???

Looking at Jerry's book, some of the undercarriage calls for "natural metal finish".  Does anybody know of a paint that is natural metal finish?  I don't want to leave some of the steering and springs untreated.....bare metal in Florida is not a good idea..

Yes, you can buy "Cast Blast" cast iron gray which is a Seymour paint product. Part #16-048. However, longevity and performance is increased if epoxy primer is used as a substrate.  I personally go the extra step. Your painter can mix the same thing on his system.

You may want to look into Nyalic clear coat.  It is no longer available directly from Nyalic, but they put me in touch with DoubleHorn Products, who sells it in 4 oz. spray cans under their own name (although I am assured by Nyalic that it IS their product).  It is intended for all types of surfaces, including bare metal or plated surfaces.  Supposedly, this stuff is the best.

I have not used it on the Camaro, but I just used it to clear coat the brake calipers and undercarriage/suspension components on a new car that I just bought.  We'll see how it holds up to a New England winter.

I was worried that this clear coat would be too glossy, but it looks great.  After coating the plated brake calipers on my new car (which have a slightly rough surface texture), you can't even tell they were coated.  On the smooth aluminum diff cover, you can see a slight increase in gloss.

I use Boeshield... it works great for a car driven under 1000 miles a year...

I can vouch for Nyalic.  About 5 years ago I coated a freshly bead blasted aluminum intake with it and it still looks good.  I did not know that they no longer sold it direct.

I used Eastwoods Cast Blast powder coat on all my steering linkage. It looks pretty good, but has a little more sheen than bare cast iron. If you aren't after a points car, I was pretty happy with the results.

I used Eastwood Diamond clear which comes either gloss or semi-gloss. works good on bare steel or cast.

I went with the Eastwood Spray Gray, for the natural metal finish.  So far so good.  More pictures soon on the site.... unfortuntely the time this is taking is long..... but I think in the end it will be well worth it....I ordered the Eastwood black/aqua for the trunk spatter and it comes with the diamond clear satin so I have my fingers crossed on the correct match and gloss. 

they haven't let me down yet.. haha
