Title: Striping on the Cowl Vent
Post by: firstgenaddict on July 16, 2008, 07:24:57 AM
Here are some photos of a 69 cowl vent with original paint on it... has anyone else seen the stripe oversprayed so out of the norm?

Here are a few more... you can see the lack of coverage in the 2 places where it must have hung in the car...

Have never seen anything like this but I have seen more sloppy stripe work in the cowl area and on the firewall.  There is one photo in my 1969 Camaro fact book that shows a firewall on a rally green car that is almost all white from overspray.  Looks very bad, but it's original!  My buddy bought this car new and the photos were taken when the car was new.  Some of the production cars were done poorly and others were done nice.  Remember, 55 cars an hour two shifts a day.  That is why we are working on a judging manual so all will build and restore cars to the nicer built production cars........not the bad ones.

The firewall had white paint pretty heavily misted down it as well... not quite as bad as the one in your book...

What's neat about this is that where the voids are on the lip where the seal pushes on... there are globs of paint which appear to have been deposited by what ever fixture was holding the panel... in the little globs you can see a bunch of differnet colors layered up... Ralley Green, red, silver... etc.

You'll see LOTS of variations of masking sloppiness on the forward surfaces of the cowl vent grille; here's a photo of my original-paint 02D '69 Norwood Z.
