Title: 1969 Z 28 Eng. Casting number/ Vin. question
Post by: lincoln41 on June 06, 2008, 02:49:05 PM
I believe I have an orig. CA built 1969 Z28. Vin. numbers/DZ stamped behind the alternator matches with the vin numbers on the dash.    According to the reference book, the casting number on the engine block which reads 3932371  comes back as 69-73 307Eng and not Z28. How could this be?                      Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank You

It has to be a re-stamp, as that block casting was only used for the 307, which had a 3-7/8" bore; 302/327/350 engines used different blocks with larger raw bores due to their 4" bore diameter.

It also means another one got taken by "HONEST JOHNS" classic cars, also known as Select Motors to some.    It's best to do your homework before you buy.
