I just bought a 69Z. I'm considering going old school with the car. Thinking about putting Crager SS wheels on it. What would be the maximum tire size I could put on the rear without clearance problem? I want to go with vintage tires so I'm thinking G60-15's.

I have 255/60/15 BFGs with no problems on 15x7 ss cragers

If it helps any I have 255/40-19's on mine with stock tubs.

With the 15's the largest seem to be 255's . I had 15's with 275's with the lips rolled and air shocks .
With larger rims like 17" there are more tire options . I have 275's on 17" TT IIs

I have 275/60/15 on 8.5'' rims. Back spacing has to be perfect
-
I also had 15 x 8.5 rims with 275/60/15 tires on my 69 and did not have an issue, but like stated, when you buy your wheel check the backspacing.
I think mine had something like a 3.5" back spacing??

i have 15 x 10 on my car. centerline scorpions, backspacing is 4.5 and have a 295/50/15 with the stock suspension. tires play a huge roll, BFGs that size are to wide. their section width is more like 12in wide and the tread is about 10. but firestones are as wide as the rim and have no clearence issues. from behind looks like i mini tubed the car.

Use a 15 X 8" wheel with 4.5" backspace for a 275/60/15 tire. I am using 17 X 8 with 4.5" backspace and 255/45/17 tires on my 68 Camaro.
It is safer to stick to no wider than a 255 tire, but 275 will barely fit without rubbing.

Max recommended tire size on a 15x7 wheel is 255/60/15...
