Title: 1969 Camaro shifter question
Post by: hihorse on April 06, 2008, 04:27:22 AM
I wanted to ask this forum if the shifter pictured could of made it on a 12B console X66 car?
I have only seen the round bar type on '69's but the previous owner states this was the shifter on the car when he purchased it in '84. Other than the shifter the rest of the car looks very correct.

Nope.  After market Hurst.  It has the stops, which the stock one didn't and you're right about the round handle.

Thats a Hurst Competition Plus. Looks like the one I bought for my car (vintage 1982) back in the day for the Car parts store.

is this not an aftermarket shifter with the stop, don't understand why these are going for so much?

Beats me.  I saw that one or another like it and wondered myself.  Maybe it's just the fact it's an original older aftermarket one.  I wouldn't want an old one if I was going aftermarket.

the one you have pictured is the aftermarket Hurst and has the 67-68 chrome stick. The 69 stick is different. The shifter body is the same for 67-69 but not the stick.

also looks like it has an extra hole drilled above the 2 mount holes

Marketing or advertsing the item. Add in ignorance on the buyers part = high price.

All the later hurst Comp Plus shifters came like this even though it does slightly resemble the 67-68 stick.
