Title: Gorrect color of the nose stripe (bumble bee) in 68
Post by: Daniel Cate on April 03, 2008, 02:08:45 PM
Hey guys,

I have a friend getting ready for paint on a custom 68 car, but he is going for a factory exterior color combo. The car will be Matador red with a straight nose stripe (like 67). The car is having the tail pan blacked out and the lower doors and rockers due to the ss/rs 396 look he's going for. The question we have is, I've read where the rockers and tail pan are to be semi-gloss black but I can't find any info on the nose color? I always see them gloss black at shows on recently done cars but what's the correct from the factory look? He's afraid it would look funny to have a gloss stripe with the other areas in semi-gloss? Thanks in advance for the help,

Dan

Nose stripes were full gloss, just like the adjacent body color.

I know you said CUSTOM but keep in mind for correctness on a base/clear job, the stripe should be over the clear, not under.  Just something he might want to consider!

Thanks for the replies. I talked with him again, and he was leaning toward the semi gloss, but I told him again that I was pretty sure it should be gloss. Now after reading your replies, he's agreed to do gloss. Even the header panel will be painted off the car so the stripe will continue down the edges, which will be even more correct. Thanks again, Dan
