Title: what is this canister for?

After taking the driver side sheet metal off, I noticed this cannister. What is it used for?

 Is that the cannister refered to in the AIM PG 230 C60-E5?

Yes, it is - it's the vacuum reservoir to operate the actuators in the A/C system.
