Title: Oil line for 1967 cars with guages
Post by: Jonesy on March 19, 2008, 03:24:59 PM
Did all 1967 Camaros with console guages come with a brass junction fitting that was in the cowl and then had a 2 piece line?
So there would be a line from the oil guage to the brass fitting in the cowl and then a line to the block from this brass cowl fitting.
See the pic below

This shows it from the inside.

My 67 z/28 doesnt have this, it has a copper line that goes thru a small rubber grommet. Were all 67 Camaros like the above pic??

The grommet I have is similar to the one in the center of this pic. It looks to be original to the car.

Nope, that bulkhead fitting is an aftermarket arrangement of some sort. The oil pressure line was a one-piece black nylon line, with the split rubber grommet for the hole in the firewall, as shown in Section U17, sheet A3 and A4 in the '67 assembly manual.

Thanks John, thats what I thought. My z/28 is unmolested and hasnt been touched since 76. Someone replaced the line with copper, but the grommet still looks factory to me.

The 67 AIM (U17, A3-A4) does have a footnote that the pages were "redrawn & redesigned" on 3-10-67.
Doesn't say what was redesigned, or that anything was added, or removed. Could this have been a mid-year change?

that  compression fitting on the firewall is the same set up as my 12D 67 rs/ss. i purchased the car from the original owner in 1984, and it hasnt been touched. i'll have to check my assembly manual again, because i thought the same thing that something had been changed. i seem to remember that it is in the assembly manual.

The brass junction or compression fitting is correct for early cars. The early 67's had a 2 piece oil line, which was replaced by the one piece design in june of 67, due to oil leaks. There is a Chevrolet Dealer Service Technical Bullentin on this number : 67-T-31 dated May 19,1967 The part number for the original brass connector is (outside firewall ) 3916737 and (the inside firewall) 3916738. I hope this help answer everyone question. Sincerely Brian K.

It must have been changed by 05D because my car doesnt have it, it was the rubber grommet. Thanks for the info.

My car is an O1B and it has the two piece line.  The picture Jonesy posted at the top is from my car.  The plastic line was cut at the guage and replaced with a one piece copper line by the previous owner.
