Title: 1967 camaro #3916323 engine block
Post by: red67l78 on February 13, 2008, 05:51:26 PM
This is also a good casting number for L78 camaros in late 67 production?   There is one for sale on camaro.net and this brought it to my attention that it only shows the "406 " for the 67 camaro on CRG.   I have talked to guys with the 323 block in these camaros  but have not seen first hand.  Is this true?  I was always told that late in production year you could have a 406 or 323 block?  I was thinking around last week in June and throught July?

Not sure where you are looking on CRG, but http://www.camaros.org/drivetrain.shtml#BlockCast shows both 406 and 323 castings for 67.
Yes, it was used at the end of the model year.

Kurt
When i went to the  "67 model id " and hit that page.  I scrolled down and it showed the block casting numbers there in the list.  The only one listed for 67 was the 406 block.  That is the page i was looking at.  When i went to the 68 id there it showed both the 323 and 440 which is right.

Thanks! That's why I asked. I forgot that page had casting info too. I need to go thru all 3 ID pages and confirm what is there.

The drivetrain page is correct. :)

I just found a old posting for a engine of   TO7O5MY  7N253976
and casting of 406 block and dated as D-!-7
Was this block DOC as correct.
To me the assembly date would work for the vin dating in production.
This is in reguards to when the 406 went out of production for camaros

I fixed the error on the ID page.

That 7N253976 block is an original.

That shows that the 406 block was used till the end of prodution, well into July?   Also you did a GREAT job on updating the info on
your site. The details of your site are what makes it great.

It's not surprising to see both blocks used at the same time as long as they interchanged.

Thanks!
