How is the 396 flag decal positioned in relation to the 396-375 hp decal on the lid of the chrome air filter. Some I have seen centered but some I have seen are off set to one side. Any help for this newbie? Thanks
-
Doesn't the lid turn around if it's loose?
-
Yes but both decals are mounted on the lid. It is an open element breather. Thanks
-
It may be shown in the AIM. The 302 decal is shown there.
-
See the Assembly Manual, section L78, Sheet A5 (assuming it's a '69 - it would help if you'd indicate what year car you're asking about).
-
It is a 1968 Camaro 396-375 if that will help. Thanks
-
It's on page L34-A3, page L78-A1 and on page L78-A6, but this is how it should be positioned:
Ed
By the way, the Z28 is positioned different than the big blocks. At least for 1968...

Ed Thanks for the picture. It shows the 396 decal in the middle which makes sense but I had seen one off set which didnt look correct but I wasnt sure whether it was correct or not. Its trivial but I wanted it correct. Thanks loads.
-
Yes, the AIM (page L34-A3) shows that both decals are placed center line of the engine. The L78 page doesn't show the measurement, but it's the same as the L34.
Glad to be of service

So are the photos on pages 97 & 98 in F.J.R. Incremona's 1967-1969 Camaro Fact Book incorrect? His photos show the "396" decal closer to the air cleaner wing nut.

Anybody else know which way is correct?

Here's a picture of an original L35 engine compartment from 1968. I've also enlarged just the filter.

Thanks Ed! At this stage I will assume the photos in Incremona's book are wrong and the car pictured in his book has been restored incorrectly. :-\

How about for a small block open air filter for SS350? Was the decal close to the edge, centered or close to the wingnut?

I've never seen an L48 with an open-element air cleaner; the Assembly Manual shows all L48's with closed "snorkel" air cleaners.

Thank you

While we're on the topic of L48 air cleaner lids...
Thanx

Marty.....check this link for Paragon Corvette....it is for a 1970 corvette closed air cleaner but it might fit. If you have any other questions about this item you might give their tech support a call and see what their opinion is as to fit.

Jerry - sounds like a good lead. The seal in the pic is a couple inches shy but certainly looks like the right stuff. I'll give them a call on Monday to see if they have something that will work.
Much appreciated!

Paul - FWIW...There is a pic in Jerry's book "The Definitive...", page 125 that shows the position of the label/sticker the same as Ed's.
-
Paragon has lots of stuff that works for Camaros. Does the AIM show a seal for that lid?
-
Nope - I also checked the Fisher book as well. Neither one shows the underside of the lid.
