Here is some help:

The date code P8A24 is decoded as follows: P= "Muncie", 8 = 1968, A=January, 24= 24th Day
With regard to the other number (28P222137), it is the partial VIN and is typically stamped on the rear edge of the main casing. I don't have my Chevy by the Numbers book handy, but I can tell you this much: the "8" means a 1968 model year vehicle, the "P" is the code for the manufacturing plant (don't know what plant this is), and the rest of the numbers (222137) are the numerical vehicle ID number.

Best of luck!

On my 69 Zs, the date code has a letter at the end (for example, P9K07B). The letter indicates the ratio, where A= M20, B= M21, and C= M22. Your date code is missing the last letter.

I looked in CBN and it only goes back to 1966.  It's not in there.

The pre-69 Muncies didn't have that suffix.

28P222137 is the partial VIN for a 68 Pontiac built at Pontiac, MI. I think A-bodies were built there.
