Title: Info on Block #3932388
Post by: crobjones2 on January 21, 2008, 04:31:56 PM
Does anybody have any information regarding block casting#3932388?
"by the Numbers" states the block to be rare block? is this correct? any insights?
The date range in the book is L208 to C119 with one Camaro from Sept with this block.
My block is E229
Thank You
Chris

The 388 block isn't "rare" - it had broad usage. See:

Thanks John
I was noting all of my casting #'s in the Cevrolet by thr Numbers book and was confused by it not being a well documented block then agian the block being called "rare" in the description.

Crobjones2,
I'm glad you asked that question.  I've seen that CBN reference to 388 and Colvin does call it "this rare block".  I guess the question now becomes:

Hey, John or any CRG member, how many 388 blocks are in the CRG database?

I also read the 'rare' thing... but later disputed.  My '388' block is dated D23

From http://www.camaros.org/drivetrain.shtml#BlockCast
"The 3932388 block is sometimes noted as being 'rare', but it actually was commonly used in mid-69 production."

There's lots in the db, about the same number as 6618 blocks. I haven't seen the latest version of Alan's book, but I gave him the casting range we've seen and the #'s several years ago. If it still says rare in a recent edition, then it still needs updating. :)

And that's why you come to CRG for the answer!  Thanks, Kurt!

Does any body have an edition of CBN dated later than 94?

I'm also updating the 388 block info my new 4th edition 1969 Camaro book which should be out Feb 1st.  I used a lot of the updated 388 block info that I have from my appraisal and certification data base.

Not I.  I checked with Amazon and they list June 1994 as the most recent edition...  http://www.amazon.com/Chevrolet-Numbers-Essential-Reference-1965-1969/dp/0837609569

In the back it shows which printing the book is and what has changed. I think it's in the 7th printing, IIRC.

You're right Kurt.  My copy shows 9 printings (with no corrections made for the 9th printing).

Well, the 9th printing still calls it "rare"...

So, always ask CRG!
