Title: Black Z28/RS Grill
Post by: KENSTOY1969 on December 31, 2007, 12:44:29 AM
I'm finally getting around to correcting a few restoration issues on my '69 Z28/RS.  It's black with white stripe as original.  Only problem is the previous owner did not paint the grill the original Argent color.

Can someone tell me how much of the grill was Argent?  Is the entire area within the chrome trim around the grill what needs to be Argent?

In the case of black RS cars they received a silver grill (all other cars received black rs grills). Original silver grill plastic was tan/grey color and then painted silver from the front side. The silver coverage was complete looking from the front side, however from the back side you could still see the tan plastic on the outer edges.

If you have a black grill, you may want to paint the whole grill  tan/grey color first and then apply the finish silver.

Thanks for the input.

Can anyone suggest the proper sliver paint color and a supplier?

Thanks.

I used Silver Argent Spray Paint from Eastwood (eastwood.com) that came out Great. I cant recall the number on it.

The grille was molded in a bone colored plastic... you may want to paint it the bone/offwhite color then go back and paint the silver... here is one in a Survivor 69 RS/Z
