Title: '69 rear spoilers
Post by: Flowjoe on December 28, 2007, 09:58:23 PM
On Van Nuys cars...when did they stop using the short rear spoiler and move to the longer one during '69 production?

Don't know about Van Nuys, but the short spoiler faded away on Norwood cars during March; my original 02D Norwood Z has the short spoiler.

i wonder if there was a definite date, or they just used up what they had. my friends 01A z has the long spoiler.

Thanks John,  I have a february (don't recall the week) LA Z project with the short spoiler....I have reason to think that it is not he original but I also had a nagging feeling that they shorties had gone away in December (obviously I am confused on that point).

x77-69z28:  I'm sure that your supposition is correct about GM just using up what they had but figured like most items in that category the CRG would have an estimate of when GM ran out of the old and switched to the new

Starting in January 1969 both spoilers were used in production; 69s may have been allocated to certain orders. All of the 1st batch of Yenkos [01B] had the '69 as did Z11s, the first of which were built 02D. ZL-1 #3 [02D] was built with the '68. There are plenty of vintage photos showing this.

So from build dates 01B through about 03B either is correct.
