Title: core support
Post by: GMPARTS on December 10, 2007, 11:07:50 PM
does anyone know, are the aftermarket core supports identical in every way to a general motors made support?  i'm trying to find out for sure if the aftermaket repops have the dimples for marking the holes for the top a/c seal.  i need this to be accurate. thanks in advance.

GMPARTS,

I apologize for moving a little off your question.  We had a long and interesting discussion about a/c seals on 68s a while back:

Note 68L30's points.

I'd like to know what you think...

And somebody, please answer his real question about the support!

Thanks for the reply lakeholme, i'm trying to identify an original from an aftermarket repop. i'm pretty sure the repops do not have the marking dimples like the oem. can anyone please look at there repop core support and let me know if the dimples are there? they are about five to six inches apart on the top of the panel. thanks!

Only 69s had the dimples, I repaired an original 67 or 68 core support and I had to weld the holes smaller for the voltage regulator (69s used screws and 67-68s used rubber nuts) and used a punch to recreate the dimples.  I had an old 69 one to compare.

Do the repros have the square inset nuts or welded nuts from behind?

Repo core support's arn't very good. They dont fit the subframe and the hood latch bracket very well. I fixed my old one. They don't have square weldnuts as original so I guess you could tell from that. At least the one I got didn't.

One of the radiator well nuts was on backwards.  Instead of the radiator resting flat on the core support it was raised up the thickness of the nut.  I fixed it with a sheet metal bolt after knocking the well nut off and welding the hole closed.  I have not had any problems...yet...with the core support fitting the car.  No Dimples.  It's a GoodMark part.

Also the correct holes for the voltage regulator and the horn relay are not even close
