Anyone know the correct exhaust clamps used on a 68 Z28? Who sells the correct ones?
-
http://www.gardnerexhaust.com/gardnerreproductions.html
-
Excellent resource... thanks now I'll have to get under the car again and have another look!!! ;D
-
I am looking at my 68 Assembly manual and there seems to be 3 or 4 different combinations to what clamps are used on a 68 Z28 dual exhaust system. Which is correct?
-
Is the strap style clamp used for securing the tailpipe onto the wheel-well exhaust bracket?
-
Yes it is.
And Gardner will not sell these parts seperately without selling a whole system.

Heartbeat City sells a hanger kit for the chambered system. It uses a couple of the straps. Maybe he will sell some straps.
-
thanks I will call Jim at Heartbeat.

Don't know about the other reproduction clamps and the quality. This has been a problem for years in the hobby. I do know that the Gardner stuff is right on the money. It's unfortunate that they will not part out components in their systems, but I can their point.

Although they are a Pontiac part supplier, back in 2003 I found the rear exhaust hanger straps at Performance Years, Inc. in Hartfield, PA. Their web site is: http://pysales.com and exhaust system parts are at: http://performanceyears.com/exhaust/. You can either click on the Trans Am/Firebird on line ordering icon and then search for part number RFE114. or simply go to: http://216.178.81.107/iwwidb.pvx?;multi_item_submit, click search and enter part number RFE114. See attached Word document. It has an imbedded picture of the hanger.
Their description states: 71-74 VENTURA & 67-69 F/B bodies. List price is $11.00 plus shipping.
I purchased 3, although I only needed one because they were/are so hard to find. One I installed fit properly. Other two are hanging on the garage wall for spares.
I would consider giving them a call.
-
Thanks for the info. but I am after the strap clamp that holds the tailpipe to the hanger.
-
Richard.... did those hangers you got RFE114.. have two holes pre-dirilled in the top part of the plate or six holes (generic)?
"thanks for looking at the wall hangers ::) "
