Title: How do you tell a real owners manual from a re-print?
Post by: 69 Z11 on December 06, 2007, 06:08:20 PM: Need an owners manual for my 69 and it seems like there are an awful lot of people out there that say they are selling original ones. Are there any definitive "tells"??

Post by: GaryL on December 06, 2007, 06:23:25 PM: The factory had several reprints with dates during the year. The repro probably does not have more than 1 date. Just a guess, but I bet JohnZ knows.

The reproduction owner's manuals don't have the "HELM" pages in them. ;)

I have 4 OE owners manuals.

1st edition August 1968 p/n #3955543
2nd edition December 1968 p/n #3955544

Both editions have an emissions equipment insert between pages 42 & 43. It is printed on yellow paper and the pages are not numbered. The 2nd edition was being furnished as late as 06A.

I do not have any original paperwork for my 69 z, but I do have that. I can give it a look see if needed. What should I look for? As I recall, it is still in the plastic pouch it came in, with the key on it? (again from memory)

oh and also my original has yellow (not yellowed) pages in the center section. The repop has all white pages.

The owner's manual in my 02C '68 Z/28 has the following information on the first page:

SECOND EDITION
NOVEMBER, 1967 PART NO. 3940153

It started out as a question on 1969 manual and ended up in 1968.

So this is a definitive tell for the 69 manual? The original has to have yellow pages in the center? How many pages?
