Title: Carburetor restoration problem
Post by: Ejam on November 06, 2007, 04:19:11 PM
I sent my Quadrajet to http://www.customrebuiltcarbs.com/index.shtml , when l sent it out he told me 2 weeks. That was now over 2 months ago. Now I know things like this take time and l don't mind waiting alittle more than what l was told but when l call him to see whats going on, and l have only called 3 times so far, l get the run around like he's on the phone etc. l have been told he'll call me back blah blah blah. l know they are busy but this is bull. Has anyone had any experience with these guys?  Earl

He must be having a problem - the Corvette restoration guys report consistently good work and service from him.

We do Q-jets and Holley at our shop too, CHP.  TAR is about 3-4 weeks because we send all of the parts out for replating.  We also bench test every carb before it leaves the shop.

Jerry:
If I may ask, what does rebuilding a Quad-Jet cost? Or is there a web page I can look at if you would rather discuss it there?

Dave,

Complete carb restorations are running in the $300-320 range right now.  Used to be $295 plus shipping ut the plating shop keeps raising their pricing which effects us. I am in Iowa right now.  Call me anytime when I get back to the shop on Monday and I can go over any questions that you have.

Price sounds reasonable to me. When I get to that point of rebuilding I will give you a jingle.
Thanks for the response

I have used them and they are top notch to me. Have you talked to Phil?

I have also used them about 6 months ago, carb looks great.....Phil was cool and a straight shooter.  My buddy also used them for a corvette tri-power resto and it was perfect.  I think my quadrajet took less than two weeks.  Excellent job.

I have used Custom Rebuilt Carbs many times in the past with no issues at all.  On a personal note, Phil is a close friend of mine and I find it
difficult to believe that he would give you the run around.  He's as straight as they come.  If you are still having problems, contact me ASAP
and I will intercede on your behalf.  Steve

Let me state that I am not here to bash Phil in any way. I am just wondering if anyone has used them in the past. Phil was also trying to see if he could find me a carb that was closer to my build date.   Earl

Hi Earl,

I'm glad that's somewhat cleared up.  I'm sure Phil is too.

He really is a great guy and has always done a super job on my carbs, as well as the carbs of many others here.
It's unfortunate there was a mis-communication of sorts.  I trust Phil will deliver you a carb to your liking.  Hopefully,
he can find you the proper dated carb as well ;D

BTW, keep me posted on the dyno results. ;)

Do you have a web site? I am looking for a company to rebuild my carter quad.
I have been looking at Barker Gang Garage. Anybody ever use them?
