Title: Idle slow to return to normal.
Post by: camaronut on January 10, 2006, 02:45:22 PM
I have a 69 SS 350 w/ TH350 trans.  When I hit the gas pedal, the engine reacts well, but coming down to idle takes awhile for it come down to normal...approximately 5 secs, sometimes more.

I checked all my vacuum hoses and found no problems.

I checked my vacuum advance and weights and it all worked normally.

Any other suggestions?

Nothing else is hung up in the linkage....could it be dirt in the carb???

Seems pretty strange. ???

Hmmm, I'm no expert here but I'm learning.  I'm not sure if you have a stock carb. or not, but a leaky choke pull off could possibly be a cause.  If it's leaking, then it may take a few seconds for your engine/carb to have enough available vacuum to keep the choke open.  Does the car seem to run rich at all?  Black smoke or fuel smelling exhaust?  I would think that whatever is causing it is also causing a rich condition, at least for part of the time.  Give us some more info. maybe.  Stock Q-jet or stock Holley, or aftermarket carb, mods, etc.?
