Title: Pitman armlength compared to idler arm
Post by: fireZ on October 18, 2007, 11:35:33 AM
I am helping a guy put together a front end on a 68 camaro. Does  the pitman arm length have to be the same as the idler arm length? He wants to use the stock 5.25 inch idler and step up to a 5.8 inch pitman to get a quicker ratio steering. Will it work as I see Ricks first gen only sells one idler arm but he has 2 different size pitman arms.

I talked to a fellow at Ricks First Gen and he said there was only one length of idler arm . He said either pitman arm would work .Thanks to anyone that was looking into this question.

Looks like in '68 and '69 only 5.25" idler arm came stock with either long or short pitman arm.  Also looks like some of the aftermarket stuff is different.

That's a good read.  My car is one of the 68's with the 67 parts on it.  I was really confused and a little worried when I couldn't find the right part numbers for what my car should have had.

Yes that is a good article. These LA cars have a couple crazy things about them.
