Title: 68 N34 Pic?
Post by: lakeholme on October 18, 2007, 01:08:56 AM
Does anyone have a picture of an original RPO N34 on a 68 standard coupe?  ???
I'm especially interested in the details of the horn button and how it fits on the column.
If you don't have a picture, a detailed description would help.

Appreciate the help in advance!  ;D

Phil, I've been working on a Steering Wheel article off and on for a few months now. Just need a few more pictures to complete it.

Here's a picture of the 68 N34 Woodgrain Plastic Wheel. (Note that the wheel is the same for Coupes and Convertibles.) Exactly what are you looking for in the way of "fit"?

Thanks Ed and Paul...

Ed, By "fit", I'm looking for a side angle, but I can tell a lot from your picture.

Thanks CRG!

Great!  Thanks, Paul.  ;D

I've got a friend who bought this wheel at a swap meet.  He thought it was original, but now, we both doubt it.  At any rate, it just doesn't look like it "fits" right at the column.  That's why I wondered about original wheels.

On this picture you sent me just now, it looks like the column piece where it connects (above the turn signal lever) is chromed or at least a different color. On the other picture above that piece is blue like the rest of the interior.  What was right with original? Both?  ???

Thanks again!  ;D  ;D  ;D

The mounting adapter that the steering wheel is attached to should be the same color as the steering column.

I have a wood wheel that was taken off of a 69 camaro when it was wrecked. The car had less than 1000 miles on it. It looks very similar to the N34 wheel used in 68. I know that they used two wood wheels in 69, the rosewood and walnut. Is the 69 walnut wheel used early 69 the same as the 68 N-34?

Clint, the 69 Walnut N34 wheel was similar to the 67/68, but the "dish" was only 2.5" in depth -vs- the 67/68 being 4" in depth.

Clint, sell it on ebay, take the money and buy a house! These go for HUGE $$$ because they weren't used for very long. Only a few months at the start of the 69 production.

Can you send me a few good, high resolution shots of the wheel? I need a few more for the steering wheel article I'm working on.

My email address is bertfam@verizon.net

Thanks
Ed

Phil, I've just completed the Carburation article so the Steering Wheel article is next. I've finished the text and have gathered most of the required pictures, so I just need to convert everything into HTML. If all goes well, I plan on doing that this weekend.

Stay tuned...

Clint, got your pictures. Thanks a bunch. If I end up using any of them, I'll make sure to give you credit.
