Title: Hello from New Zealand
Post by: WayneinNZ on October 01, 2007, 09:16:08 AM
Hello to all.
Firstly I would like to congratulate you all for a fantastic website full of information.
I have been searching for a camaro for some time and found this site invaluable when figuring out what I was (and wasn't) about to buy.
There are a lot of 6cyl camaros down here that have has V8's fitted to them along with a few stripes and are getting passed off as SS or what have you.

I have recently purchased a nice black 68 SS which the owner was quite reluctant to sell as he has restored it as a keeper. Unfortunately for him money problems forced a sale. Fortunately for me I was able to afford it.
Funny thing though, He was offered A LOT MORE by other people once word got out about it being up for sale, but still he honoured our agreement. As he said, " I know its going to a good home".
In short this is a quick note to say hi.
I will bombard you with questions soon, once I have found all the other numbers I want to check out.
I dont think its matching numbers but for now the VIN is 124378L338993.
So thanks again for the wealth of information.
See you in the other forum topics.

Wayne

Wayne -

Do you live in Auckland?  A few years ago, I shipped a load of parts to a guy in Auckland who was restoring a '69 Z11.  I thought you might know of the car if you live in that area.  Good luck with the SS!    :)

Hi there.

Bigblockpace
There are a couple of 67's for sale at the moment and a couple of 69's.

Yes I am  in Auckland. I am relatively new to the "camaro scene" here.
I am sure once I track down a club here I wll come accross him and a few more cars as well no doubt.
They are scattered about a bit and its not very often you see them out and about.
I bumped into a guy here in Auckland yesterday who has a near identical car ro mine. We will both get out babies out of mothballs if its not raining on Saturday and compare them for any differences etc.
I have two friends here that both have 68 RS/SS's.
One is a lovely 327 non matching Nos ragtop that he has only just got on the road.
The other is a matching Nos coupe, still in the rebuild stages, with factory aircon, electric windows, delux interior, fold down cargo rear seat and tic-toc-tach with extra guages on the console.
Its thanks to these two that I began hunting for one of my own.

Is it posible to find out what a car was originally optioned with and what type of engine etc was fitted when it left the factory if you search the VIN number behind the windscreen?
Or is that data lost for all time?
I will post in the other forum alll the numbers I have so far.

Thanks guys.

Where was your car built? Canada, if you're lucky.
68 Trim Tags tell you very little and Chevy in the US did not keep much data on individual cars.
It's going to take some research... Start here:

No first generation Camaro was built in Canada.

Wayne's car was built in Van Nuys, CA.   (Where all the good Camaros were built!    ;) )

True, I mis-spoke... Meant "originally sold"...

I believe only the Norwood factory built first generation Camaros for export to Canada.  I have never seen a Van Nuys built first generation Camaro that was originally sold in Canada.    :)
