Hey guys, i'm looking at purchasing a car on ebay and wanted to see if anyone could help me with these #'s? Is there any way to tell if this is an actual RS car? Also it has a 2 speed transmission, is this going to give me any problems? I'll try and post a picture of the actual cowl tag and vin # later tonight, but the ebay item # is 170144624434. It has the vin and a pretty good shot of the cowl tag.
Thanks, Scott

The 68 cowl tag really will not verify if it is an original RS or not. Email the seller and ask if there is more documentation.
The 2 speed is a powerglide, an automatic transmission. That was common. But before you decide read Rich's report about the L30/M20:

Do post the picture of the cowl tag. There are some folks here who can better determine the tags originality. I looked at it on Ebay and have a few suspicions.

1 = Chevrolet
2 = Camaro
4 = 8-cylinder engine
67 = convertible body
8 = 1968 model year
L = Los Angeles, CA assembly plant (Van Nuys)
328696 = vehicle serial number sequence
Decode for body number: 000934
01D = Built the Fourth week of January.
68-12467 = Convertible.
LOS = Built in Van Nuys California.
714 = Custom Black Bucket Seats.
C-2 = Lower Color is Ermine White and the Convertible Top Color is Black.
R528 = internal plant scheduling code.
Says it's a matching number 327/275hp in the ad. Get the numbers and a pic of the pad stamping and post it. That will help.

In case you're not aware, this car didn't leave the factory with that hood (SS) and those rally wheel centercaps (1967). If the engine is truly numbers matching, jump on it! $25,000 is cheap for a running '68 convertible that clean and with those options. Good luck! :)

Steering wheel horn button dosn't look like RS cap but hard to tell from this distance. Possible repaint at some point as no longer has lower rocker bodysil blackout. Correct RS grill with chrome trim. Nice looking car, similar to my 01C Norwood also with factory AC.

In the end Paul is right... You cannot find a convertible 68 sport coupe (especially with AC) in good shape for the present bid, and the $25k is fair. Good luck if you bid!

Congratulations Scott! :) (assuming your Ebay id is starheel44)

Thanks for the replies guys, I just drove from Ky to Minn. and picked her up (about 27hours round trip). It's exactly what we were looking for. He had already told me he added the ss hood. The rest of the car is original. I'll get some pics up as soon as I find out how to post them.
