Hey everyone, I could use a little help identifying a 68 camaro. I'm suppose to be buying it tomorrow, but I want to know as much about it as possible. The owner says it is a numbers matching 68 SS camaro. The car has the 327 engine with a block # of J305832( I got that off the front lower section of the motor. The car right now is white with red ss stripes and a slightly raised hood with red interior. It also has the side marker lights and a 10 bolt rearend. I will supply all the info I got off the vin in the windshield and the info off the cowl tag. I could really use any and all info anyone could give me before I buy the car. P.S. This will be my first camaro!
Windshield vin # 124378N305832
Cowl Tag: 09A Body
68-12437NOR
5729
TR 724 A6
Engine block # J305832
(?)
Thanks for any help my email is srlanham@adelphia.net

A '68 Camaro SS would have a 350 or 396 engine. If the 327 in it is original it is not an SS.
If the car was truly an SS350 the front pad would have the partial VIN stamp and the engine stamping; MS for a manual trans, MU for automatic. For example if the car was a 4-speed the pad might read 18N305832 V0826MS. V=the engine plant, 0826 is Aug 26.
The car should also have a 12 bolt axle.

The J305382 is a VIN derivative, and indicates that engine was originally installed in a full-size car built at Janesville, Wisconsin. There should be an engine plant assembly date and engine type code next to it on the same pad. In any event, it's not a Camaro engine, as Ed noted.

Engine block # aside(I'm going to double check that when I go back and take a look at the block), what else can you guys tell me about the rest of the cowl tag. original paint color ect.?
Thanks, Scott
