Title: Exhaust Smell / Leak
Post by: zegret on August 06, 2007, 01:13:04 AM
Just got done cruising in my '69 Coupe and have noticed a heavy smell of exhaust in the car while driving around.  Noticed it again today.  I haven't done much checking yet, but I know there is a problem somewhere.  Just  wondering who has run across this and solved the problem.  Any tips/pointers would be appreciated!  Thanks!!!

Look for exhaust system leaks and open seams/joints or rust holes in the floor pan/trunk pan. Also, if the rubber seal between the back of the hood and the front of the cowl vent panel is missing, engine compartment fumes will be drawn into the air intake plenum in front of the base of the windshield and into the car through the dash vents and kickpad vents.

Thanks, John.  I have the day off today so I will give it a look-see!
