We've used Pauls.  Very good but slow and very $$$.  When we first started dealing with them it was about $325 to do a front or rear Camaro bumper, now it's about double that for one.  Good chrome platers are getting harder and harder to find.

My front bumper is currently at a rechromer in El Paso, TX now.  The cost is suppose to be  $175 + freight.  This bumper was in very good condition when I shipped it and won't require much rework.  I'm suppose to get this back the middle of next month.  I'll let you know how it turns out.

The plating business is getting very expensive.

Thanks one and all, I've have decided to repaint the lid black instead of chrome plating it. You are all correct, finding a good inexpensive plater these days in very difficult. The time, costs and disposing of the chemicals used is quite a burden on them from what I was told. I found one plater that would do the lid, but it would cost $100 dollars. I didn't pay that for the complete closed element air cleaner!!!!!!!!!!

Dave you can't leave out DeRango"s,  Infuison's , and Dino's. The wife and I just went to Infuison's tonight.

Who gave you that price for the chrome? I have two lids I would like to have chromed also. Maybe we can get them all done for a better price. What do you think?

Also are you going to the Elkhorn car show swap meet this weekend?

Plans are to go to Elkhorn, still have a "hit list" getting shorter but still there. The dobbler radar says rain all weekend,,,,,,,,, :( just have to wait and see. Plan on going Saturday.

Mike:

Sorry, the plater actually was someone who painted parts that looked chrome. And he lives in Racine. Does it part time, has a shop near Boucher's Chevy on 11. I passed after hearing $100 and it was just paint.

I know who you're talking about. I never met him but he rents a spot from a body shop a friend owns,  Rods Auto Body. He does a lot of rims with that chrome paint. I've never seen a finished one but from what I hear it looks great. He's about four blocks from my shop. For $100 I think you can get the real thing for that. I have a friend that sends his stuff down south to a place with a 14 day turn-around. They do great work for a good price. I'll have to get that number from him.

Are you taking your car out to Elkhorn? We will be taking our white convertible, it's the 67 on the homepage right now. Maybe we'll see you out there.

FYI - I just got a quote from a local plating shop here in Baltimore for $60.00 to do my air cleaner top.
I'll let you know what it looks like, I'm going to bring it in next week.

I have the original air cleaner for mine that I would like to get done. Are they able to protect the original silk screening on the back of the lid?  Thanks,  Sam

I'll let you know, I'm going to drop mine off on Mon. or Tue.
Mine is an orig. chrome one so I don't know if there is a difference between re-plating, or doing a black one.

Mike:

I took my 67 to the show. I was there at around 7:30 this morning!!!!!  I found a chrome top, they said original, I believe it to be a reproduction. He wanted $80 i got it for $60. So there is no doubt in my mind it is a reproduction. Also bought some wire looms to clean up the engine compartment a little bit. Again IMO, not a whole heck of lot of good parts to choose from and what there was would cost an arm and leg to get.
I saw your car many a time on the homepage for last month, sweet looking ride.

We never made it out there I got really behind at work and I ended up working Saturday Morning. I heard there wasn't anything good out there. Glade you found something to buy. Now if you can only find that flywheel cover.

I just got my bright shiny bumper back from plating and I really happy with it.  This took about 8 weeks but if you are willing to wait you might give them a call.   My front bumper which was in really good shape cost me $160 + freight  The company is El Paso Electroplating.  http://electroplatingofelpaso.com/
