Title: Rear axel posi designation
Post by: ccargo on December 28, 2005, 08:26:42 PM
I have a very clean QW 0330 G2 rear axel in my 67 L35. It does have the radius braket and bar installed. What I dont see anywhere is the posi designation "E" under the assembly code  ??? I was wondering if the bracket was installed prior to the assembly code being stamped and also was the posi designation stamped at the same time as the assembly code. Kinda "what came first, the chicken or the egg"  ;) Would it be unusual to not have a posi designation on a posi axel? No damage or rust issues to obscure the stamp....its just not there.

All the stamped codes were done at the axle plant, not the final assembly plant.

If you do not have an "E" under the first part of the axle code, it was not a posi when it left the plant, someone must have added that later.

QW is a posi code though. So it would appear that they missed stamping it.

Any chance the bracket would have been welded on over it?

I dont have the e stamped on my 67 either.  Its a posi also. Enough room between the stamping and the radius bar bracket.  Nothing..
