was the rear end houseing on a 67 camaro painted or not? Some say yes black, some say no. What will be acceptable on a march built 67 with a 12 bolt? Also the radius rod was that painted? ???

;D a thred is a topic, like this one about rear end houseing color.

Paint the rear end cover bolts black when you do it. Many do not and have them phosphated so there's a contrast.

Is this true on '69's as well? I have it very good authority that the entire rear and axle should be painted black (this after I already have completely detailed in natural metal). What black should be used?
Thanks in advance.

Any kind of a medium gloss or satin black.

Paint at least the outer circumference of the brake drums while you're at it. There are enough vintage magazine photos to convince me that was how the factory did it. A few of the pix show the face of the drum & end of the axle also in black. The pinion flange was masked and left natural.

Are there any Pics of what this is supposed to look like? I would like to get this right. Here is what I have now but it;s it's currently back in the car:

Should be all black except the pinion flange and the brake pipes and tee. The park brake cables were in place when it was painted, and the brake pipes and tee were installed later, at the car assembly plant.
-
The Pinion Flange used a spiral wound paperboard tube, similar to the one on the front a NOS waterpump.

This is what I have. Hope it's close. BTW the springs get striped and repainted next week.
-
Did the brake bleeders also get painted? First time you bleed the brakes you would have a mess. Black lacquer and brake fluid do not mix.
Just curious.

I'm not sure about that but I didn't paint mine. My rearend housing and backing plates are powder coated 70% gloss Black and tha drums were painted.
-
The Wheel cylinders were installed when the rear was painted so unless they had caps they would have been painted.
-
I've seen a whole lot of brake drums that looked like they were never painted. Maybe it was a LOS vs NOR thing.

Is this on 68's too? Either the paint on mine, wore off, got stripped or were never painted. Mine were bare metal when I bought it and the "professional" that did stuff on it like undercoat the whole car wouldn't have taken paint off of anything.
