Title: Correct Carb 69 396 325hp
Post by: Ejam on May 05, 2007, 09:49:32 PM
l have a 69 ss 396 325 hp that came with a quadrajet but the original carb is not with it. Does anyone know the correct carb number and a date? My guess is 7029200 but not sure of the date. The engine build date is T0416JG. Thank you Earl

Earl -

Good guess!  7029200 is the correct carburetor for the '69 Camaro 396-325 hp (L35) engine with the TH400 transmission.  The carburetor was installed at the car assembly plant, so it should be dated from about ten days to a month or two prior to the car's final assembly date.

Earl -

Any carburetor with a date code in the 02C - 04A range should be satisfactory.  Everyone agree?   :)

A carburetor with a date code of 0489 to 0949 (2-17-69 to 4-4-69) should be satisfactory.  Everyone agree?

Unfortunately, there's some confusion in the various references on this carb.
The correct # 7029204 FF.
The date could even be a week closer (about 1019).

FF is the customer code, sometimes referred to as the broadcast code.

Possibility? Which, the date or the carb #? The carb # is the correct one. I believe the L34 auto used the same carb, but I can't confirm it, yet.
The 7029200 is not the correct carb.

every book l've been reading is showing the 7049200 as the carb used for the 69 L34 325 hp. what publication are you getting the 7049204 from? thanks

If 7029204 is the right number the search begins again for me. I finally found a 7029200 recently. I should have asked first. Don't worry Earl, I am looking for a Nov. 1968 date so we won't be competing for the same one.

The website that referenced the carb # also had the L35 districbutor as a 1111497. Is this correct?

I'm not. 204 is what is actually on original cars. Never seen a 200 on an original car.

I'm looking in the CRG database. We have several 69 L35 cars that we have data on the the original carb. I also confirmed it via broadcast sheets.

I have the same car with the build date 09A, and carb. number 7029215 .
I assume that this is the factory carb. as everything else is stock on the car.
Am I incorrect thinking this?

Your car must be a 4 speed as the odd numbered last digit would indicate. If your car is 4 speed it is probably the right carb based on another website I found recently. The 7029204 is for automatic.

Actually my car is an automatic with 77000 on the odometer.

I do not think that's the correct carb for an auto car.

L/34 is the 350hp-396.  L/35 is the 325hp-396

7029204 and 7029215 are the 396-350hp & 427-390hp carbs based on my research.

For 1969, the Rochester 7029204 FF Carburetor was used on the 396/325 and the 396/350 with Automatic Transmissions.

The 7029215 EH Carburetor was used on the 396/325 and the 396/350 with Manual Transmissions.

Note that both of these differ from published listings, but CRG research has shown these applications to be correct.
