Title: RS. NOS vs Repop
Post by: cwyllie on January 28, 2023, 03:16:54 PM
Hey everyone.
I need to replace my vacuum relay switch and actuators on my 68.
There are NOS parts available for a $$$$. The Repops are obviously much less. The NOS would cool, but not like the entire system would be original as hoses need to be replaced as well.

I need to know who has used the Repop option on the above parts and what kind of luck they have had with them and also, which vendor purchased from. Same with hose kit. If these parts are junk, maybe the $$$$ up front for NOS would pay off in the long run vs. replacing repops yearly??
Relay and both actuators = $1250 NOS/$215 Repop.

Thanks.

I had to replace my original relay valve in Aug 2021 on my '69 RS.  Went with the repo from Classic Industries.  Works just fine, no issues.

I also replace my actuators about 15 yrs ago, not because the originals had gone bad, but since I was that deep into restoring the front end (complete sub frame removal, etc) it just made sense to do so.  I packed up the originals and still have them.  Again, I haven't had any issues with the repo actuators either.

I bought two OER actuators for my 69 RS Z28 in 2010. I had one Original go bad but replaced both. One of the repops actuator rod was too long and would not allow the headlight door close perfect like with the originals. I just reused the original and still am using it. So just compare the repops to originals prior to installation.

I have gone through 3 repop relay valves under the hood in my 22 years of owning my car. Mainly its the diaphragm inside getting a hole in it over the years as I rarely use the headlights on my car as I avoid driving it at night if I can. The actuators were replaced before I got the car as it had been in a front end accident and needed to all be replaced. They still work perfect.
