Title: AM antenna
Post by: fireZ on April 26, 2007, 10:51:20 PM
Can someone let me know what the difference is between a 1968 and 1969 AM antenna. I am finishing up my 1968 Rallye Green Z and want it just right. Thanks

I'm not sure of the difference (or if there is one) between '68 and '69, ...but having both '67's and '68's with AM radios, ...the antenna you are looking for is a telescopic 'flat' (oval) mast.

...these may not be the greatest pics, ...but they are of my '67 with the original mast still intact.

I do have an NOS GM in the wrapper (I need) but I can grab the number off it if you need...

1967 and 68 models are the same.  The bezel is flatter on 69 models, and different.  I should also point out that many in the hobby have distorted the issue on the antenna mast tip stating that all original antennas have a groove in the tip.  They were made both ways, some have it and some don't, so don't let anyone tell you that an original GM antenna has to have the groove in the tip of the mast.

I have three low-maileage survivor cars in my collection and none of them have the groove in the antenna tip.  Have also seen many others the same way........and others with the groove in the tip.

Arno,

Yes, it is the same.  I apologize for my availablility but my Camaro travel these days is off the charts.  Just keep trying either number for me.  This coming week, FL, DE, and MA. all in one week!

I bought what I thought was an NOS antenna w/o the groove. It came in a brown GM package. Thanks for the verification that it could be with and w/o the groove. :)

Arno I met you at the Camaro National in Niagara Falls. I have the LA 68 rallye green Z28. I think you know my buddy Dale with the 69 Pace car. Good hearing from you

How long have you owned your '68Z?
Does it have the ivory (code 711) custom interior?
What's the chassis build date?
Do you have the correct DF rally wheels on it?

The car has standard black interior,no console, muncie shifter, correct DFs, 02E build, engine VO205MO ,BU rear ,M-21 that someone before me changed guts to M-22,smog all intact and working,POP,Warranty book,State of California Title ,302 emblems, every body panel is original and I brought it up to Canada in 2002. I did have a lot of body panels to straighten out but was able to save the factory steel. I am a proffesional Fire-Fighter and restored the car at home from top to bottom including paint in my home garage.

Sounds great!  I was just was wondering if it was a car a friend of my mine owned in the '80s, but he had the ivory custom interior.  This interior color looks great with the Rallye Green paint.

Yes I thought about changing the interior colour but the car is so correct i thought it would be a shame.

You're smart to keep it original!  I always recommend keeping a vehicle factory.  I've seen too many butcher jobs.  :)
