Title: Build sheet - the holy grail
Post by: Mathewkozak on August 15, 2022, 03:02:00 AM
Hello all,

I hope I'm not flogging a dead horse.

I've loved the 69 Camaro since I first saw one when I was 4 years old. After 53 years I've finally fulfilled my dream and got one. This one has been fully restored and slighty modified. It's an X11 body, 350cid (original motor doubtful), front disc brakes and badged as an SS. It was built in Norwood and from what I understand is next to impossible to have an original build sheet. Is there any way to find this information out? I'm really curious if this is a true SS or not.

The VIN is: 124379N704370
I've attached a picture of the trim tag.

Could be anything from a base v8 to a sb SS.  But it does have the style trim option (X11).  Get the engine pad stampings, check for vin stamp by the oil filter block flange, trans stamp & diff stamp.

Also go to the main page and cruise around and check out some of the information already provided which will help you decode the tag and help clue you in on where to find stampings etc.

Olympic Gold with Parchment top would be a cool color combo too bad they didn't go back with original colors.

1st gen Camaros were final assembled using two production docs: Body Broadcast Copy [BBC] and Chassis Broadcast Copy [CBC]. Either was attached to various sub-assemblies as the car moved through the assembly process, then discarded. A copy of each was in the car when completed, to be discarded after the 'de-papering' step. On rare occasion, they were overlooked and sometimes retained by the selling dealer.

Van Nuys built cars often had a BBC stuck to the fuel tank. Norwood built cars virtually never have BCs.

Your car was on ebay recently, has a 10 bolt rear axle. SS cars almost all have 12 bolt rear axles.

I'm still in the process of collecting stamp numbers. What I've seen from camaro.org is that late model SS 350/auto camaros did have 10 bolt rears. Mine was produced in late Oct.

Note: GM documentation indicates that 1969 SS350's and LM1's with automatic transmissions received a 10-bolt rear axle. Only SS350 cars with Powerglides have been observed to have 10-bolt axles. Some LM1 automatics have 10 bolt axles. Please contact us if you have a 1969 SS or LM1 car with a 10-bolt axle.
