Couple Camaro buddies and I were discussing upper brackets and the question came up. When or did production transition to the clip nut from the fixed nut.
Please provide production date, plant & engine option. We can get more detailed from there if the data shows anything more.
Photo 1 is the 2 versions side by side.
Photo 2 - 68 12D LOS small block
Photo 3 - 68 03D NOR big block
I realize 69 big block is a different bracket so just looking for 69 small block photos in this discussion.

My 68 has the nut, and it’s an11E car. It’s also a 6 cylinder.

Both 68's 06a Nor 396 and 06b Nor 327 nut type. Also checked in 1969 partsbook and 67,68 and 69 assembly manuals two different part #s. 3893831 67-68. 3938612 69. 67-68 assembly manuals look like nut! 69 not good picture might be clip nut. Maybe some one with a 69 might confirm.

I have 2 69s, both with the clip nut.

02E Z/28, Los Angeles built 3/13/1968 has straight cut end with nut like #3.....Joe

Thanks gentlemen. Great info & keep it coming as it appears from Sport’s searching on part numbers that 69 was the changeover. Would like to confirm when. Thanks!

I have two 69s , both are clip nut Los 01B and 02B

My 05A car has a fixed nut. Owned it since 78, pretty sure it’s original.
