Title: 1969 Camaro speedo
Post by: VINCE Z28 on May 28, 2022, 01:13:42 AM
Guys I have a 69 Camaro speedo that needs oil cleaned off the face with out removing the numbers. Anyone tried removing and saving the numbers ? I think it's motor oil? Thanks Vince.

That looks like cigarette oils. Smokers car? I can’t imagine motor oil getting on the speedometer. I don’t have a proven method, I would try a Q-tip swab but it seems risky.

Glass cleaner or white vinegar might be gentle enough. Definitely not oil.

I would agree with the oil residue statement.  With grease in the speedo cable, there has been a mist of oily residue on the ones I have removed in the past.  A gentle cleaner of diluted dish cleaner (oil and grease cutter) like Dawn is called for, no scrubbing or rubbing though. Spray on and rinse off.
